In lingua inglese:

To write to you we are more than a thousand family of people held scattered throughout the Italian territory. We address you on this Easter day, hoping to reach your heart. It’s not a common Easter, we all find ourselves locked in the house facing this COVID-19. emergency. However for some it is even less, for us and our loved ones worry is through the roof. By now it’s clear to everyone that this damn virus finds fertile soil in crowded and closed places, the drama of what happened inside the elderly residences is in everyone’s eyes. Unfortunately, the situation inside the prisons is similar, they are extremely crowded, closed and inside many people do not have a good state of psycho-physical health. The case of the Montorio prison, where there are 42 people, between inmates and guards, positive for the virus, is just a tragic example. To date, as far as we know, there are about two hundred correctional officers, almost a hundred inmates and twenty workers from infected health workers. They count dead due to the virus between inmates and custody officers. Since the beginning of April, 4 prisoners have taken their lives, suicides that are definitely to be attributed within the tension situation that these moments of emergency forced into overcrowded jails. From the Attorney General of Cassazione Salvi, to the surveillance magistrates, from numerous union acronyms of the correctional police, to the order of lawyers, in the last days more “authoritative” people have warned about the dangerous escalation going on inside the prisons and expressed the urgency to adopt Emergency measures that can bring out numerous prisoners “urgently”, i.e. without further burden on the surveillance courts. We know that around ten thousand inmates should be released to reach maximum capacity within sentences, this is what we hope. Around Italy, among relatives, we said we were willing to create a day of protest to make public the unacceptable situation inside the prisons on Thursday 16 April, what we hope is that this Easter will create the conditions for which we will not be Forced to carry on this protest. What we hope most is that we have seriously consider the situation inside the prisons and that, thanks to Easter, a feeling of compassion will prevail over revenge. Everything will be fine only if it works out for everyone and everyone! Family of prisoners and inmates in Italian prisons
